Over the last couple of years several women and girls have been murdered because they supposedly had ‘stained’ the honour of their family. Also a few men were victim of honour killings. These murders caused a lot of publicity and raised general awareness amongst politicians, government, media and welfare institutions. There have been several initiatives to increase and improve the support to those who suffer from honour related violence, and to prevent the future occurrence of this violence. This website, a product of MOVISIE (used to be TransAct), gives an overview of the present situation of honour related violence in the Netherlands: projects, organizations, newsfacts and backgrounds.
